Geometric Coastal Print for The National’s Kursaal Performance
Geometric forms and optical line work define this gig poster design, presenting an abstract modernist interpretation of a coastal landscape. The composition centers on a dense field of deep blue and white grid patterning that forms the silhouette of a coastal promontory rising above the horizon. Sharp, sail-like triangular wedges cut through the foreground in pale pink and white horizontal bars, evoking maritime sails caught in motion. Set against a matching horizontal-striped sky, a pale circular sun sits low on the left, while undulating vertical stripes crest along the right ridge to echo rolling hills or breaking surf.
The color scheme relies on a deliberate balance of deep royal blue, delicate blush pink, and crisp off-white. By varying the frequency and orientation of straight lines—contrasting dense micro-checks with relaxed horizontal striping—the artwork creates dynamic visual depth and moiré-like energy without relying on gradients or photographic imagery. Below the framed graphic field, clean sans-serif typography anchors the base in matching navy lettering, presenting “The National & Friends” alongside the date and venue details separated by centered bullets.
Created for the group’s October 18, 2026 performance at the Auditorio Kursaal in Donostia-San Sebastián, the visual language draws quiet inspiration from the seaside setting and the Kursaal’s renowned architectural presence along the Bay of Biscay. The balance of architectural structure and minimalist maritime motifs offers an understated, contemporary aesthetic tailored for indie rock poster collectors.
